Sharpening, servicing and repairs for petrol and battery saws — plus bars, chains, oil and safety gear over the counter.
A chainsaw is the machine people most often bring in convinced it’s finished, when what it actually needs is a sharp chain, fresh fuel and a service. Blunt chains make the saw work harder, burn more fuel, and wear the bar and sprocket out early.
Chain sharpening
Bring the chain on its own, or leave the saw with us and pick it up ready to cut. If the chain is stretched past adjustment, or the drive links are damaged, we’ll say so rather than sharpen something that’s going to let you down halfway through a load of firewood. We carry replacement chains and bars in a range of sizes and pitches.
A chain is due for sharpening when the saw produces fine dust instead of coarse chips, you have to lean on it to make it cut, or it pulls to one side through the cut.
Chainsaw servicing and repairs
Our workshop handles the full job, not just the sharp end:
- Carburettor clean, tune and rebuild
- Air filters, fuel filters and spark plugs
- Fuel and oil lines, and the oiler that keeps the bar alive
- Starter recoils and pull cords
- Bar, sprocket and chain wear
- Battery saw diagnostics using STIHL testing equipment
We’re an Elite STIHL Dealer, so STIHL machinery, accessories and spare parts are on the shelf here — but the workshop services every brand that comes through the door.
Bars, chains, oil and safety gear
Beyond the saw itself, we keep the consumables you’ll actually run out of: two-stroke oil, bar and chain oil, files and sharpening kits, replacement bars and chains. Ask at the counter — if we haven’t got it in front of you, we can usually get it in from our spare parts range.
If you’re cutting firewood regularly, it’s worth talking about protective gear too. Chaps, helmets and gloves aren’t glamorous, but a chainsaw doesn’t care how experienced you are.
Before firewood season
The rush hits when the weather turns. A saw that’s been in the shed since last winter almost always needs fresh fuel and a service before it will start reliably — and the queue in autumn is a lot longer than the one in summer.
